Wi-Fi Connected but No Internet: What to Check

"Connected" only means your device found the router, not that the router can reach the internet. The goal is to find out which side is broken.

  1. Confirm you are on the right network, not a guest network or a neighbor's.
  2. Test a second device on the same Wi-Fi. If both fail, the connection is the problem. If only one fails, it is that device.
  3. If both fail: unplug the modem and router for 10 seconds, plug the modem back in first, let it settle, then the router.
  4. If only one fails: forget the Wi-Fi network on that device, reconnect, and restart the device.
  5. If some sites load and others do not, try another browser or flush the DNS cache (Command Prompt: ipconfig /flushdns).

Do not wait

If the modem still shows no internet after a restart, contact your internet provider. If several people at a business are down, ask David right away.
